Steel Versus Aluminum Above Ground Pools
Steel is stronger than aluminum and if that were the end of the story I would just tell you to buy a steel pool. Aluminum pool walls are thicker than steel to make up the difference. My aluminum walls are almost twice as thick as my steel pools walls. Also, because steel rots and rusts, aluminum above ground pool walls last longer.
When you buy an above ground pool with an aluminum pool wall you get a pool wall that is just as strong if not stronger than steel. But, aluminum
Resin Above Ground Swimming Pools
The first thing you need to know is that resin pools have a steel or aluminum pool wall. There is no such thing as a resin wall. They are called resin pools because the majority of the pool is made with resin. But, never the wall.
Our Lamark and Our Atlas pool models are both considered resin pools. Resin pools are sometimes called hybrids.
Above Ground Pool Walls
This is what makes the difference. On the whole, pools that cost less are made of cheap steel that rusts quickly. How quickly? 2-5 years! The US market is flooded with cheap Asian Steel pool walls. You tend to find them in all the big box stores. The only manufacturers I know of, that use US Steel is my manufacturer, and Hoffinger Industries, the maker of Doughboy Pools. Doughboy Pools expensive models like the Tuscany, and Saratoga have the best wall you can buy. My manufacturer (Aquasport Pools LLC) ONLY buys the best US Steel, no matter what model they sell.
Filters, Pumps, Liners, and Ladders
Sand filters are the cheapest, Single speed pumps are the cheapest, and thin liners are the cheapest. So you will often see pool stores package their pools with cheap accessories to compete on price. An energy hog one speed pump and a thin liner are sure to cost you. The difference between garbage and good is only a few hundred dollars, so be sure to ask about the quality of those accessories.
I hope this simple article has proven an informative buyers guide, helping you to select a quality above ground pool for your family.
